Old and new pumps Notice that the new one doesn't come with the threaded studs. If you can't remove the old ones without gurring up the threads, you'll need new ones. Best way to remove them from the old pump is to squirt them with WD-40 and lightly tap the protruding ends several times each with a hammer. Wait 5 minutes then repeat. Then wrap the threads with cardboard or heavy rag and grasp with HD pliers near the bottom, jerking counterclockwise to break free. You might need put a handle or something between the other studs to hold it still. Hope this helps anyone else who runs into this problem on a 2001 Ford Ranger 2.3 L 4 cylinder engine!
